Bringing the creative spirit of Robert Wilson and Philip Glass into motion graphics was both an honor and a serious challenge. I was asked by Rich Silverstein to create a logo reveal for the Watermill Center Library, a space dedicated to inspiration and interdisciplinary exploration. The goal was to reflect the ethos of the center, stripped down, intentional, and deeply rhythmic.
What struck me most was how naturally Robert Wilson’s work aligns with motion graphics. Where we use graphics, he uses people, but the principles are the same: tension, release, cadence, and form. This animation may feature just seven simple objects, but we obsessed over their weight and timing, how they could feel heavy in one moment and light in the next.
Inspired by Glass’s minimalist music, we focused on the rhythm of movement and the power of restraint. Stripping everything down to basic shapes forced me to think deeply about intention in motion. It pushed me harder than any project before, and I came away with a renewed appreciation for the art of less.
